“I had absolutely no value for myself and this self-destructive path, it very quickly brought me to a real crisis point and it wasn’t clear at the time the reason. Maybe it was divine intervention.” After the sudden death of Mac Miller, the rapper—born Shad Moss—took to Twitter to let his fans know that he’d once struggled with a cough syrup addiction. “To the youth- Stop with these dumb ass drugs,” he began his series of tweets.
“I still put it off and was trying to slow down on my own, like, ‘All right I’m only gonna let myself take two pills today. I’m only gonna drink this much of my bottle and make a mark on the bottle,'” he recalled. “And it would work a couple days—and then somebody throws a party.” The Parent Trap actor battled a cocaine addiction throughout the ’80s that sent him to rehab in 1990. As he later explained on Today, he grew up in the ’60s and ’70s when “there was a completely different attitude” towards the drug. “I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction,” she wrote on Instagram two weeks later. Cyrus shared in 2022 that she’s been in recovery for her Xanax addiction since 2020.
While Tallulah didn’t speak with her for three years, the same could not be said for Rumer. She said she acted as sort of the “ambassador” for the family and fielded concerned phone calls from Demi’s friends when she was using. “My family shunned me and called me a traitor for going demi moore alcoholism to talk to her,” said Rumer, who added that she was put in an impossible position between her mother and everybody else. Rumer recalled feeling “angry” a lot of the time her mother was with Kutcher, because “something that was mine had been taken away.” She said she often felt like she and her sisters “were not enough” for her, and that’s why she wanted another child. “I literally was like, ‘Why are you so desperate to have another kid?'” she said. “Ru @rumerwillis Scouter @scoutlaruewillis and my Boo @buuski seeing your beautiful smiling faces-you are what makes my heart worth beating. Everything I do is for you!” Moore wrote in the caption.
During the beginning stages of their relationship, both were highly supportive of one another, and Kutcher loved to shower Moore with affection. Yet as time passed, Moore began to struggle with alcohol addiction, and Kutcher wasn’t equipped to handle it. “It was like the sun went down and a monster came,” recalled Tallulah. Moore went to rehab for drug and alcohol addiction in the mid-1980s. In January 2012, after months of partying and drastic weight loss, Moore collapsed into convulsions at her L.A. Home and was hospitalized before going to rehab for addiction and an eating disorder, sources told PEOPLE at the time.
In her memoir, “Inside Out,” Moore recalled suffering a seizure after using nitrous and synthetic cannabis while at a party with Rumer. “The most amazing thing about this journey for us as a family is that in a lot of ways it has allowed for a different level and depth of communication that I don’t know we would have had otherwise,” Willis told “Addiction Talk” host Joy Sutton during an Instagram live on Monday. “I will figure this out but please excuse me in advanced for any IG faux pax of insensitivity it certainly is not intended,” Moore concluded. “My heart goes out to the families. I believe in the power of LOVE! These are the moments we need to inject greater loving compassion acceptance and understanding.” “In fact, it was more like an ultimatum … unless I was dead, that I better show up,” she continued. “They gave me a chance to redirect the course of my life before I destroyed everything. Clearly, they saw more of me than I saw of myself. And I’m so grateful because without that opportunity, without their belief in me, I wouldn’t be standing here today.”
Demi recalled in her memoir a watershed moment when the former couple were on vacation and Ashton had made a comment about alcoholism, something she has openly spoken about battling. It’s something Demi, 61, wrote about in her memoir Inside Out, which also detailed her previous relationships and marriages, including her third marriage to actor Ashton Kutcher, 46, to whom she was married for eight years. The experience was the catalyst that turned things around for the actress.

“Thank you my dear friend Amanda @amandadecadenet for presenting me with this beautiful honor and bringing your strength beauty depth intelligence and deep loving. Having you there was like being wrapped in a warm blanket of love and safety.” “I know in a moment of great struggle for me, I reached out to a wise teacher and expressed my fear that I wasn’t good enough,” Moore concluded her speech. The actress credits two people she “barely knew” for giving her the ultimatum that saved her life and led to recovery.
Two of Demi Moore’s daughters recall how “jarring” it was when the actress relapsed into substance abuse a few years ago, saying it was “like a monster came.” When Tallulah was in treatment, one family day at the center was the first time she, Rumer, Scout, Bruce and Demi had been together in a long time. As they all began speaking again, Rumer recalled feeling frustrated with her mother, who didn’t understand why they had been estranged for so long. After that, Moore entered rehab, but substance abuse only escalated for her daughters. Rachel Paula Abrahamson is a lifestyle reporter who writes for the parenting, health and shop verticals.

Some of the movie’s most memorable moments include Sparkle birthing her younger double, Sue (played by Margaret Qualley), as her skin splits open all the way down her spine. The double then sews up the torso-long gash, and viewers are treated to close-ups of the needle piercing flesh, complete with juicy sound effects. Moore said in the book that Kutcher snapped a shot of her drunk with her head on a toilet that ‘seemed like a good-natured joke at the time, but it was really just shaming,’ Radar reported.
“We had an argument outside of his home related to him drinking again,” she explained on her Instagram Stories Jan. 22. In addition to Moore’s Academy Award nomination for best actress for “The Substance,” she won the Golden Globe earlier this month for the film. The four women ended their conversation with Liu, Diaz and Barrymore praising Moore a final time for her performance.
